— the mannequin moko studio · Te Kawa o Tūwaerea
⌂ te ute · nav ↺ hoki ki te kawa · homete matuatetoa tūmatauenga o te ao mamati · the warrior-god-priest in the digital flesh
The eye was already built and proven — the Kurawaka, the mannequin, the stage. This is the rest of it: the body in the digital flesh, made with the same tech — the rangiatea seed as core metric, line bent to curve everywhere automatic. Full 3D human form on a gyro we control every aspect of: turn, tip, zoom to a knuckle, isolate any zone. Eight holysticks seated in the body. Weapons long and short — wood, bone, stone. Kākahu ancestral to future. Skin, eyes, ink, all live. One utterance and the sky stands still: whā breathes, tū holds.
Strokes are kept as living lines, not pixels. Every line you lay is remembered as geometry — change the skin colour and the moko re-sits itself, zoom to any depth and it re-draws crisp, flatten a zone for print and it renders at print sharpness. No jagged edges, ever. The save is real: it keeps on this device and waits for you.
Touch templates · the pool. Ten kauae chin templates, mataora face templates, pūhoro sweeps, sleeve wraps — and the mixed designs that can land anywhere on the body: koru, mangōpare, pitau-a-manaia, ngutukākā, kaperua, rautawa. Every template takes your ink colour and nib weight, and every one is a beginning: once it lands, it's yours — draw over it, erase from it, turn it into the thing only you would make. For the formal pattern work — kōwhaiwhai, tukutuku, tāniko, whiriwhiri, raranga — that's the sister studio, Te Rārangi, linked from your kawa page.
one
Full body or isolated zone. Spin it, tip it, zoom to the detail. The pen is live on the skin.
two
"Flatten zone · print file" unrolls the skin of the active zone into one clean sheet — the whole moko, edge to edge, print-ready at any size.
three
The sheet opens at real centimetres. Calibrate once with a ruler, set the real width, lay the device on wood, stone, plastic — or hold it beside the client — and trace the light.
four
"Export view PNG" captures the form as it stands — the hero shot for the portfolio, the socials, the shop listing.
five
The whole moko — every zone — saves to this device. Close everything. It waits.
six
The flattened sheet and the hero shot are the product files — pattern pack, design listing, client spec. Nothing to something, on your shelf.
The model plates live in the vault at the edge — ours, loaded fast, woven into the gears. Touch any plate to pin it large beside you while you work the form. These are the referents our own models are made from: stance, proportion, gear, presence. The mannequin stands bare by law — real, and changeable in any detail, any time.
What this creation is and its purpose, from the eye outward. Each part: its physics, its science, and what that means in the digital.
te karu · the eye
Physics: light bent through a lens forms an image on the retina. Science: perspective projection — the world collapses to a plane through a focal point. Digital: the PerspectiveCamera — focal length 38°, rays cast from your eye through every pixel. Tap-to-zoom is the fovea: you look, the eye goes there.
te tinana · the body
Physics: a skeleton held by fascia, skin stretched over muscle. Science: vertices, faces, normals — a surface of points in 3-space. Digital: the lathe-grown torso, the sculpted skull, cylinder limbs with hands and fingers — thousands of points holding the human form true at any zoom.
te taka · the gyro
Physics: angular momentum; a body turns about its pito. Science: rotation about two axes — azimuth and elevation, clamped so it never flips. Digital: drag turns, drag tips overhead and underfoot, scroll zooms, spin-or-hold — the whole body on a centre-point gimbal, locked to its pito.
te kiri · the skin
Physics: skin is a wrapped membrane; pigment sits in it. Science: UV mapping — the 3D surface unrolled onto a 2D sheet. Digital: every zone carries a 2048-line canvas as skin; strokes live as geometry, not pixels — zoom forever, no jagged edge, re-sit the whole moko when the skin tone changes.
ngā holystick
Physics: the body's leverage points — crown, throat, hands, heart, centre, puku, feet. Science: anchored markers in 3-space, raycast-touchable. Digital: the eight atua operators seated in the flesh — touch one and it speaks its function. The body is the architecture; the architecture is the body.
ngā rakau · weapons
Physics: a held tool moves with the hand — one frame of reference joined to another. Science: parenting — the weapon's origin pinned to the fist's coordinates. Digital: taiaha, mere, kotiate drawn true, seated in the right hand, riding every turn; wood, bone, and stone as material law — roughness, hue, weight of look.
ngā kākahu · clothing
Physics: cloth hangs under gravity from the shoulders. Science: a second surface over the first, profiled to drape. Digital: piupiu, pari, korowai, tee, shorts — gear swapped live, ancestral to contemporary; the korowai wraps the torso like woven weight.
te reo · the voice
Physics: pressure waves in air. Science: frequency, amplitude, timbre — the utterance as waveform. Digital: the voice engine — pitched by the atua scales; whā breathes the loop, tū stills it. One utterance and the sky stands still: the render loop holds its breath.
te kēmu · the game
Physics: choice under constraint. Science: state, rules, input, update, render — the loop every game is. Digital: the same flesh, with rules seated: the kapahaka stage already proves the loop; the game is the body with stakes.
te koru · the whole
Physics: every output feeds the next input. Science: the rangiatea metric — line bent to curve, automatic, guaranteed, wherever it has access. Digital: Rangi to Papa, the spiral world forming in between. This body is that metric standing up.
